I have used this lesson to prepare A-Level Literature students to read Blake’s Songs of Innocence & Experience, but this could easily be a stand alone lesson for high level Y11 students and above.

This lesson focuses on Blake’s own invented mythology and how it relates to SOI, particularly the poems that could be perceived as more sexual in nature.

In this lesson, students will use prompts and their previous knowledge of the tragic genre to construct their own plan for a tragic play. Students will, after presenting their ideas, choose one scene from their play to write out in full. Includes a 10 question tragedy quiz with teacher answers.

This lesson is the third in a three lesson SOW that introduces the students to the origins of the tragic genre. In this lesson, students will become familiar with different tragic solilquies throughout history: from Antigone, to Othello, to Death of a Salesman. The students will choose to analyse one of six soliloquies, and then get into pairs so that they can present a comparative analysis.

This lesson is the second in a 3 lesson mini scheme of work on the context of Shakespearean England. However, this could easily be a stand alone lesson. This session focuses on the social classes of Elizabethan England, and where they would be positioned in the theatre. The students will complete a creative writing task from the perspective of a groundling, and then self-review against a success criteria.

This is the third lesson in a scheme of work that focuses on protest writing, with a specific focus on the Romantic movement. This lesson focuses on the Milton and his impact - specifically the controversy of Paradise Lost. The students will Miltonic excerpts as well as quotation from other poets who Milton influenced in preparation for responding to an unseen Romantic poem next lesson. This lesson was for my A-Level class, but could be used with a higher ability year 11 set.

This A Level lesson looks at the origins of protest with what is arguably the original protest: Genesis and the Devil’s interference with mankind. This is the first lesson in a scheme of work that focuses on protest writing, with a specific focus on the Romantic movement. 4-5 weeks worth of Nature poetry lessons, including an introduction to poetry, a presentation week (with matching presentation templates), and a build to an assessment task.

Lesson One: WOTW (Emancipation) and study of key concepts and context connected to the poem. Lesson Two: Analysis and pair annotation lesson Lesson Three: Creation of revision resource and analytical paragraph. Finishes with a fun Kahoot quiz.

This lesson is half-punctuation and half-comprehension. This allows students to ‘solve the punctuation crimes’ by detecting the ‘stolen punctuation’ in a sentence. After answering some 11+ style comprehension questions, students will test their punctuation skills by writing a crime fiction piece. The lesson finalises with a peer-review.

This SPAG lesson focuses on the specifics of speech marks and semicolons. Students are given a spelling test, knowledge questions, and then a creative task to prove all they have learned. Included in this bundle is an easy teacher marksheet, in which teachers can simply highlight a student ‘What went well’ and ‘Even better if’.

This lesson will introduce students to Question 4 and its requirements, and will also teach them to write strong evaluative statements.

This lesson is the fourth in a scheme of work on GCSE skills - however, it can easily stand alone. This lesson allows students to study a section of The Fellowshio of The Ring, and analyse any techniques they find. At the end, students will produce a question 2 style response.

In this lesson (8th in a GCSE exam skills SOW) students will learn about the language paper 1 question 3 requirements, and test their understanding of tracking structure with an extract of 'No Country for Old Men’. This lesson will cover Language Paper 1, Question Two skills. The students will be building brilliant vocabulary, identifying various language techniques, and analysing a section of Jaws for implicit meaning.
